Methods and Material
The design, protocol and methodology of the ANIBES Study have been described in detail in Ruiz E. et al, 2015 and Varela-Moreiras G. et al, 2015.
For this part of the research, the ANIBES Study focused on adults (aged 18-64 years), with a representative sample of 1,655 individuals (798 men and 857 women). For a better stratification, two groups of different ages were classified:
• Younger adults (between 18 and 40 years): 883 individuals.
• Older adults (between 41 and 64 years): 772 individuals.
The assessment was focused on anthropometric data, such as height, weight, and waist circumference, which were measured by trained interviewers following standardized procedures.
Furthermore, general obesity was assessed using body mass index (BMI) and abdominal obesity by both Waist Circumference and Waist to Height Ratio.
Taking into account these parameters, there were four categories based on World Health Organization (WHO) International Classifications:
Underweight: BMI < 18.5 kg/m2
Normal weight: BMI 18.5 kg/m2 - 24.9 kg/m2
With the participation of:
Overweight: BMI 25 kg/m2 - 29.9 kg/m2
